For Middle School Educators
TXOC is developing activities and lesson plans that middle school teachers can easily adopt in the classroom. These resources align with the state’s career and technical education requirements. They include:
- A career exploration game: Middle Galaxy, developed in partnership with MIT’s media lab, is a fun, interactive way for middle schoolers to learn about career paths in Texas and the knowledge, skills and abilities they require. Students and families can also access the game at home or on their phones.
- A graduation planning tool: Map My Grad enables students to assess their own skills and interests and use that knowledge to plan their path to high school graduation and beyond.
- Lesson plans and curriculum guide: Texas OnCourse lesson plans promote deeper student engagement in career exploration and planning. The guide is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for College and Career Readiness and Investigating Careers.
Texas OnCourse also partners with with Roadtrip Nation to give Texas students the opportunity to become “road trippers” and interview individuals in leading professions across the state. Road trippers will get to talk to their heroes, job crushes, and anyone who’s doing generally awesome stuff. Roadtrip Nation films it all and will turn it into a show to inspire people to pursue their interests!
