Update: Texas OnCourse Piloting Training for Counselors

3/27/17

Update: Texas OnCourse Pilots

As a counselor and adviser, you are sometimes expected to be an encyclopedia of information. We want to help with that. To do so, we have created online learning opportunities that give you the information you need in the following subjects:  postsecondary pathways, career pathways, and financial aid. These lessons, organized into easy-to-use, digestible “modules,” will be publicly available in August, 2017.

We are testing these lessons all year in preparation for the full scale release in August. In the fall, 400 counselors and advisers participated in our first pilot, with lessons on the FAFSA, Apply Texas and The Common Application.

Of those surveyed after completing the lessons:

Testing is ongoing, and, this month counselors have completed modules on the SAT, NCAA & NAIA eligibility, and researching postsecondary options. We look forward to sharing these results with you, as preliminary findings suggest that participants found the lessons provided highly informative and relevant to their practice.

Texas OnCourse is dedicated to not only making these lessons informational, but usable for counselors and advisers across the state. If you’d like to be a part of our pilots moving forward, see below for information to share with your team, as well as a calendar of modules we need pilot participants for through the spring and summer.
